Aramid is short for "aromatic polyamide". It is a class of strong man-made synthetic fibers with very high performance. They were originally developed and used in the aerospace and military fields. The molecules of these fibers are present through relatively rigid polymer chains. These molecules are linked by strong hydrogen bonds that transfer mechanical stress/force very efficiently, making it possible to use relatively low molecular weight chains. Aramid fiber is thinner than the average thickness of human hair and has a distinct yellow color. It can be woven and dyed in various ways thus having a wide range of colors and designs.
