Associated hazards and risks
Deep discharge (< ~3.0 V/cell): may lead to irreversible damage to the battery and loss of performance.
Overcharge (> ~4.2 V/cell): risk of swelling, fire or explosion.
Current above 40 C rating (52 A burst): use at currents higher than those specified may lead to overheating and damage.
Impacts, punctures or mechanical deformation: may compromise the structure of the battery and cause an internal short circuit.
Extreme temperatures:
Above ~60 °C → risk of explosion or fire;
Below 0 °C → reduced performance and risk of damage if the battery is charged when cold.
Unattended charging: if you are not careful, a fire can break out; it is recommended to charge under supervision and, ideally, in a fireproof bag.
Improper storage: the battery is left connected when not in use, or completely discharged, or stored at inappropriate temperatures – all of which shorten the life and increase the risk.
Safety recommendations
Use Li-Po chargers with a balancing function to keep each cell at equal voltage.
Disconnect the battery from the replica immediately after use to avoid parasitic consumption.
Charge the battery under supervision and in a fireproof bag, on a non-flammable surface.
Store it at storage voltage (~3.8 V per cell) if you won't be using it for a few days, in a cool, dry place.
Inspect the battery periodically: if you notice swelling, deformation, overheating, unusual odor, or other signs of deterioration, stop using it.
